As dedicated nonprofit organizations committed to bettering the community and enhancing the lives of those in need, the journey of two of our organisational members have been nothing short of inspiring. In the pursuit of providing compassionate palliative and end-of-life care through hospice services, they have encountered numerous challenges, with fundraising being a crucial aspect of sustaining their noble cause.
Palliative Care Association Kota Kinabalu (PCA KK)
The Palliative Care Association of Kota Kinabalu (PCAKK) established 25 years ago, had cared for more than 5,000 patients and their families over the years. They organised the Annual Charity Dinner and Show on 24th May 2024 at The Magellan Sutera, Grand Ballroom.
“PCA members have come together with a commitment that lies at the heart of your mission, to provide care to those most in need and to console families during their difficult times. Your work goes beyond the physical, addressing psychological, social, and mental needs, and you have set an exemplary work for others to emulate. It has grown to meet the needs of the community which is in line with Government policy,” according to Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, who represented the Chief Minister at the event.
Deputy organising chairperson, Datuk Margaret Lim confided that total sum of RM250,000 was raised during the event attended by 1,000 guests. Margaret said the Homecare programme now has a fulltime Resident Medical Officer, Dr Christannie Tay and a panel of medical advisors, namely Datuk Dr Jaswant Singh (MHPCC Board member), Datuk Dr Suzain Suhaimi, Datuk Dr Ronnie Bachi and Dr Anita Boey respectively.
Performing at the event was ‘The Killer Queen Experience’ band from Brisbane, Australia.
Malaysian Association of Paediatric Palliative Care (MAPPAC)
On 25th May 2024, MAPPAC succesfully held their annual charity bazaar at Pusat Kreatif Kanak-Kanak Tuanku Bainun. Deepest gratitude to YB Pn Hannah Yeoh and their esteemed VIP guests Datuk Dr Jim Khor, Mr Edmund Foo, Mr Gary Cairns, Mr David Barron, Mr Joseph and Miss Eriko for gracing the event with your presence and unwavering support.
The bazaar was attended by a large crowd and vendors offered a range of things from food, drinks, plants, vegetables, everyday equipment and artwork. Together, they have raised a staggering RM 342,000!
During the bazaar, they also held multiple other side events including awareness talks and experience-sharing. MAPPAC has certainly managed to organize an amazing event with all the supporters around them.
